CCCMF’s 11th Season Opening Night Concert

CCCMF’s 11th Season Opening Night Concert, set in the gorgeous sanctuary of Trinity Episcopal Church sees Ensemble-in-Residence the Manhattan Chamber Players join forces with members of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and New Orleans’ own Lott Quartet to bring you to bring you a performance of chamber orchestra masterworks by Benjamin Britten and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, led by frequent guest conductor of the LPO Joshua Gersen!

By popular demand, bandoneonist and composer JP Jofre makes his return to CCCMF!  JP’s mastery of the bandoneon (a fascinating instrument known widely as the soul of Argentinian tango), and his own unique compositional voice combine forces with members of Ensemble-in-Residence the Manhattan Chamber Players for an intimate evening of exciting, virtuosic collaboration.  Join us in the intimate and excellent acoustic of the Recital Hall at UNO’s Performing Arts Center for this unmissable event!

“A Celebration of Strings”

Join Ensemble-in-Residence the Manhattan Chamber Players for performances of two of the seminal masterworks in the string chamber music repertoire: Antonín Dvořák’s String Quintet in Eb major and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence for string sextet, all in the warm, sparkling acoustic of the historic Rayne Memorial United Methodist Church – a Sunday afternoon celebration of strings not to be missed!

The Dover Quartet and Manhattan Chamber Players perform at Urban South Brewery for CCCMF 2018

This informal, fan-favorite concert has been on CCCMF’s lineup since our very first season.  Special, one-evening only beer flights (available for purchase) from one of New Orleans’ finest (and first!) breweries are paired with great Classical music performed by CCCMF Festival Artists in the casual, welcoming atmosphere of Urban South Brewery‘s tasting room.

A portion of proceeds from drink sales this evening will be generously donated by Urban South Brewery to the Crescent City Chamber Music Festival.

Longtime Festival Artist Mark Dover is the Grammy-winning clarinetist of Imani Winds and frequent collaborator/soloist with bands ranging from the Detroit Symphony and Cleveland Orchestra to American funk band Vulfpeck.  He takes the stage this season of CCCMF in his own self-curated concert, featuring collaborations with members of the Manhattan Chamber Players and other locally based artists – we can’t wait to see what he does!

Ensemble-in-Residence the Manhattan Chamber Players flexes its Romantic muscles with music from that great, wildly varied era of chamber music composition in a recital bookended by Joaquín Turina’s pan-European, rarely heard Scéne Andalouse and CCCMF’s first ever presentation of Johannes Brahms’ towering, masterful Piano Quintet.  Join us in the unmatched acoustics of Tulane’s Dixon Concert Hall for an evening of sublime music making!

In CCCMF’s 11th Season Finale Concert, Ensemble-in-Residence the Manhattan Chamber Players are joined by members of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra to perform works spanning the first half of the 20th century, beginning with Maurice Ravel’s dazzling Tzigane, and closing with Aaron Copland’s sublime Appalachian Spring, presented in its original, intimate, 13-person instrumentation.

Join us in the historic sanctuary of Rayne Memorial United Methodist Church, and meet the Artists at the reception that follows!
