Mark Limacher, Pianist/Composer
Mark Limacher is a JUNO-nominated pianist, composer, improviser, arranger, and genre-crossing musician based in Calgary, Canada. A graduate of New School University in New York City, he has studied privately with esteemed composers Linda Catlin Smith (Toronto) and Laurence Crane (London). In 2013, he apprenticed with Bunita Marcus in Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Limacher’s compositions focus on works for solo instruments, chamber ensembles and small orchestras. In 2022, he was selected as an Artist-in-Residence for the Festival of the Sound’s Music Scores program, featured by the National Arts Centre’s Music Alive initiative.
Mr. Limacher’s orchestrations and arrangements have been performed by notable artists and ensembles, including JUNO-winning vocalist Caity Gyorgy, vocalist and playwright Allison Lynch, jazz vocalist Ellen Doty, Kensington Sinfonia, Theater Calgary, and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. As a pianist and keyboardist, he is a frequent performer with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and Theater Calgary, where he has held roles as keyboardist, Associate Music Director, and Music Director. Beyond performance and composition, his interests include Italian opera, early 20th-century music, psychoanalysis, and contemporary philosophy. Mr. Limacher co-founded the NCRA award-winning radio program Unprocessed with violinist Laura Reid in 2016.
