Joy Meade, Soprano
Joy Meade has appeared frequently in opera, oratorio and concert productions. Her operatic appearances have included Opera Créole, Opera Louisiane, Atlantic Coast Opera Festival, Lyric Opera of Baltimore, Annapolis Opera, Central Florida Lyric Opera, Waco Lyric Opera, Opera Vivente, and the Young Victorian Theater Company. Karyl Charna Lynn of Opera Now described her voice as a “strong shimmering voice that gave subtle sparkle to her character” for her portrayal of Donna Anna in Opera Vivente’s production of Don Giovanni.
Other roles to her credit include Violetta in La Traviata, the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore, Mařenka in The Bartered Bride, Nedda in I Pagliacci, Micaëla in Carmen, Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow, Sister Constance in Dialogues des Carmélites, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Mimi in La Bohème, and several Gilbert and Sullivan heroines.
Ms. Meade was one of the original members of Krewe de Voix, and has also performed as soloist with Symphony Chorus New Orleans, Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, the York Symphony Orchestra, and the Bach Concert Series. Oratorio works to her credit include Haydn’s Creation, Bach’s Magnificat, Christmas Oratorio, and Coffee Cantata, Poulenc’s Gloria, Fauré’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, Rutter’s Gloria, Handel’s Messiah, and Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio.
In addition to performing, Ms. Meade maintains an active vocal studio and has served on the faculty of Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, MD and locally at Xavier University. A certified yoga instructor and sound healing practitioner, Joy regularly performs contemplative concerts in yoga studios and teaches mindfulness and movement workshops for singers.
