Laura Weiner, Hornist
Laura Weiner is a passionate horn player and advocate for Classical music based in New York City. An experienced chamber musician, orchestral performer, and teaching artist, she is an alumnus of Ensemble Connect, a fellowship program through Carnegie Hall, and now enjoys a career performing all over the world. Ms. Weiner has performed with diverse musical groups from the New York Philharmonic to Adele, and is a member of chamber groups Alarm Will Sound, Decoda, and “the pop French horn experience” Genghis Barbie. She has performed at the Bravo! Vail Festival, Bay Chamber Concerts, Marlboro Music Festival, and Norfolk Chamber Festival, among others. A high-altitude native of Colorado, she received her undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Northwestern University, and her Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison on a University Fellowship.
In addition to performing, Ms. Weiner is enthusiastically devoted to education and community work. She teaches music appreciation, songwriting, and piano to incarcerated students at prisons across the country. For many years, she taught composition at four different elementary schools in NYC for the New York Philharmonic’s classroom music program, as well as horn at Longy Conservatory of Music in Boston. Outside of music, Laura honors her alpine roots by rock climbing, hiking, bird watching, and snowboarding.
